Hilary O’Hare had a problem – her professional career consisted of manufacturing jobs and having hair up all day long, every day caused severe tangles and headaches, not to mention all the time it took just to get something to hold it in place and then having to remove it. But there was nothing on the market that could alleviate the problem, or even make the situation easier. So she designed a solution to the problem herself, and thanks to 3D printing, she was able to have her design realized and ultimately, bring it to market. All my life I have had a passion for hair styling and my favorite subjects in school were math and science. It was the advantage I had to secure many manufacturing jobs. I had one major problem, I had severe tangles and headaches from having to have my hair up all day long every day. It was so time consuming just to get something to hold, then having to remove it. I have searched for anything like the product that I designed all my life. When I discovered 3D printing, I knew it was the perfect way to prove my concept prior to purchasing injection molds, it was the start of my product design. I prematurely applied for the patent, but I did get it. I spent so much on so many contract workers just to find out I needed to finish whatever they were assigned to do. 100% bootstrapped on my own.
